Piergiorgio VITELLO will defend his PhD thesis Crowdsourced Data for Mobility Analysis on Friday, 10 March 2023, 10h00, Campus Belval in room MSA 3.330.
The role of data in transportation research is crucial for understanding and analyzing the movement of people. This thesis explores the potential of crowdsourced data, specifically the popularity index of points of interest from Google Popular Times data, to overcome the limitations of traditional mobility data sources and enhance mobility analysis. The thesis examines how Google Popular Times can be used to estimate mobility flows. It proposes a method to estimate transit flows at the station level and explores the possibility of using crowdsourced data to extract mobility trends during anomalous events, such as the COVID-19 pandemic. The final objective is to develop new data-driven tools to exploit crowdsourced data in mobility analysis.
